EMDR therapy for young people between the ages of 16 – 24 years old. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) can help to relieve a wide range of emotional and mental health difficulties. Commonly experienced trauma such as bereavements, accidents, illnesses and conditions such as anxiety, panic attacks, depression, phobias, addictions, low self-esteem and performance anxiety can be relieved through EMDR treatments.
The detrimental impact of trauma may result from a single incident event, frightening situations that are repeated, or multiple different traumatic events.
Reprocessing is usually experienced as something that happens spontaneously, and new connections and insights are felt to arise quite naturally from within. As a result, many people experience EMDR as being a natural and empowering therapy.
Early Adulthood challenges
Moving towards, and into, adulthood, often brings unexpected challenges which can feel stressful, sometimes over-whelming and many young adults can doubt their abilities to cope leading to feelings of insecurity and anxiety which can get in the way of enjoying new-found independence and fulfilling long-held dreams.
For many young people, early adulthood is a time of transition and big changes such as the many challenges encountered in college or university, finding your way with employment, navigating friendships and developing relationships which may become more intimate.
Early adulthood can feel highly-pressured and anxiety provoking as you try to find your place but may feel you don’t fit anywhere. It can often seem as if ‘everyone else’ is getting on so easily while you struggle too much. New experiences can be exciting but can also threaten to overwhelm.
You may feel fearful about the uncertainties as to what awaits, and about what you are growing away from and leaving behind. The familiar structures of family home and full-time education are giving way to the need to be responsible for your own lifestyle for living, working, learning, socialising, and coupling. This can be a time of much excitement and adventure. It can also bring intense anxieties, fears, depressive feelings, and insecurities which feel unfamiliar and which you need to manage. These years are ones when finding out who you are, and what your place in life might be, your personal and sexual identity are all important questions.
How many sessions will I need?
